The meeting of Reviewers and Scientific Board of the Kardiologia Polska (Polish Heart Journal) / Spotkanie Recenzentów i Rady Naukowej „Kardiologii Polskiej”

On September 23, we held the long-awaited Meeting of Reviewers and the Scientific Council of the Kardiologia Polska (Polish Heart Journal). The event was part of the XXVI Congress of the Polish Cardiac Society, which, this year, was hosted by the International Congress Center in Katowice.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity to summarize last year's achievements and to share our plans. The event ended with the awards ceremony for those who contributed most to the Journal achieving record Impact Factor for 2021.

The Editors" Network online meeting

The Editors" Network online meeting was held on March 22, 2022. Editors-in-Chief of more than 30 national cardiology journals from the ESC, including Alex Parkhomenko from Kiyv, Ukraine, participated in the meeting. The topics discussed were: changes in the IF calculation, consequences of Plan S, and preparation of a workshop on "how to write a good paper" with the Young Cardiovascular Professionals Committee (planned in September or October 2022). A new topic review on catheter interventions, based on best selected original papers from national journals, will be written and published in the EHJ this year. Our journal is part of this network.

Prof. Marian Zembala (1950–2022)

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of Prof. Marian Zembala — an outstanding cardiac surgeon, transplantologist, long-term director of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze, and former Minister of Health. He went down in history as an operator in the first heart transplant in Poland, performed under the supervision of prof. Zbigniew Religa, and the author of many pioneering heart and lung transplants. He was a teacher and authority for many generations of doctors. We will greatly miss him, and we honor his memory.

Z wielkim smutkiem przyjęliśmy wiadomość o śmierci prof. Mariana Zembali — wybitnego kardiochirurga, transplantologa, wieloletniego dyrektora Śląskiego Centrum Chorób Serca w Zabrzu, byłego ministra zdrowia. W historii zapisał się jako uczestnik pierwszego przeszczepu serca w Polsce pod kierunkiem prof. Zbigniewa Religi oraz autor wielu pionierskich przeszczepów serca i płuc. Był nauczycielem i autorytetem dla wielu pokoleń lekarzy. Cześć jego pamięci!

Article Processing Charge (APC)

We would like to remind you that the publication of manuscripts submitted to the Polish Heart Journal as of March 16, 2022 will be associated with the obligation to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC), in the amount of:

— 500 EUR for original papers or review papers not commissioned by the editorial office,

— 250 EUR for short communications and clinical vignettes.

Publication of manuscripts submitted before March 16, 2022 and accepted after that date remains free. However, APCs will apply to manuscripts subject to a “Revise and Resubmit” decision, which have been resubmitted following revision after March 16, 2022.

Introduction of article-processing charges (APCs) for articles accepted for publication / Wprowadzenie odpłatności za artykuły przyjęte do publikacji

Another successful year for the Kardiologia Polska (Kardiol Pol, Polish Heart Journal) is behind us. The international position of the journal requires a continuous improvement of the quality of service and the process evaluating and publishing manuscripts, which are submitted from an ever-growing number of countries. The Kardiol Pol has, so far, been one of few open-access scientific journals of this rank, with no author-facing publication fees. However, at the meeting of the Main Board of the Polish Cardiac Society on January 11, 2022, a decision was made, after an in-depth discussion, to introduce Article Processing Charges (APCs) for all articles accepted for publication in the Kardiol Pol.

Za nami kolejny rok sukcesów Kardiologii Polskiej (Kardiol Pol, Polish Heart Journal). Międzynarodowa pozycja czasopisma wymaga ciągłego podnoszenia jakości obsługi, ewaluacji i wydawania manuskryptów zgłaszanych z coraz liczniejszych krajów. Jednocześnie Kardiologia Polska była dotychczas jednym z nielicznych czasopism naukowych open-access tej rangi, w którym publikacja prac była bezpłatna. Na zebraniu Zarządu Głównego PTK w dniu 11 stycznia 2022 roku, po wnikliwej dyskusji, podjęto decyzję o wprowadzeniu opłat za prace przyjęte do publikacji w Kardiologii Polskiej.
