Forum Nefrologiczne 2017;10(3):235-239.

Abstract

The authors are happy to present the nineteenth article in the series known as the Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology published in “Forum Nefrologiczne”. The series started off with the outstanding figure of Tadeusz Orłowski and the previous issue featured Bruno Watschinger, the renowned Austrian nephrologist, the creator of a new type of dialyser for haemodialysis, the organiser of the Danube Nephrology
Symposia. This time we are honoured to shed some light on Professor Edmund Nartowicz, one of the founders of the Polish Society of Nephrology and the organiser of the Society’s first Congress in Bydgoszcz in 1983. E. Nartowicz will also be remembered as one of the founders of Bydgoszcz Medical Academy and the Head of its Department and Clinic of Cardiology and Internal Medicine. His creation of the first dialysis unit in the former voivodeship of Bydgoszcz is also the fact that must not go unnoticed. E. Nartowicz was an outstanding clinician and practitioner as well as a researcher and teacher for a great many Bydgoszcz-based internists, cardiologists and nephrologists.
