Abstract

Patients with chronic kidney disease, undergoing renal replacement therapy are seldom pregnant. Due to the threat to both mother and foetus, such pregnancies belong to the high risk group. Intensification of renal replacement therapy, strict monitoring blood pressure, interdialytic weight gain and the possibility of therapy with erythropoietin stimulating agents in close cooperation with obstetricians, allows for a normal pregnancy and the birth of a healthy child. The first case of a patient with end stage chronic kidney disease who was undergoing hemodialiysis at the Fresenius Hemodialysis Center in Sieradz and became pregnant is described. Thanks to comprehensive nephrological and obstetric care, the patient gave birth to a healthy boy, which gives hope to other patients undergoing dialysis who want to have offspring.
