Friends with Benefits Relationship is defined as relationship between cross-sex friends who engage in sexual activity on repeated occasions, without romantic commitment. These relationships are considered as a novelty among other human relationships and have been in the centre of scholars attention for about 10 years. Nevertheless, the phenomenon still arouses many questions and doubts and requires further exploration. The aim of this article is to present a review of existing research, focused on the most commonly investigated aspects of Friends with Benefits Relationships, such as: prevalence, motives, expectations and characteristics of its participants, advantages, disadvantages and consequences as well as rules, communication and sex differences. The limitations of existing research and directions for future research suggested by their authors are also presented.
