Pain management in patient with microcellular lung cancer and accompanying peripheral neuropathy induced by chemotherapy
Abstract
This report describes a case of a 76-year-old man suffering from microcellular right lung cancer. Four chemotherapy cycles and prophylactic radiotherapy of the central nervous system were applied with good outcome and the patient was subsequently directed to a general practitioner. The patient in good condition was admitted to the Outpatient Pain Clinic because of severe mostly neuropathic pain syndrome of the lower part of the body (NRS 9–10). Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy was recognized in the patient. The treatment applied helped reduce the intensity of pain to the level of NRS 3–4.
