Abstract
Hypertension is the major cause of death worldwide. InPoland about a third of people have high blood pressure, while more than two thirds population have abnormallevel of lipids. Low efficacy of the treatment may be dueto the long duration of treatment and number of dose. The use of fixed-dose drugs, once a day, promotes bettercompliance. This article reviews studies using the one-pillcombination of amlodipine and atorvastatin. This paperdiscusses the place of statins, particularly atorvastatinin lipid-lowering therapy and amlodipine — calciumantagonists in antihypertensive therapy. The article summarizesthe efficacy and safety of combination of amlodipineand atorvastatin in studies: ASCOT, AVALON,RESPOND, CUSP, DUAAL, GEMINI, JEWEL. Theresults show the effectiveness of this combination, reductionof blood pressure and LDL-cholesterol. The effectsof treatment resulted in a reduction of total cardiovascularrisk and mortality.
