Hypertension induced by oral contraceptives
Nadciśnienie tętnicze 2011;15(2):112-117.
Abstract
Hypertension induced by oral contraceptives, is still
present in clinical practice. However use of newer drugs
containing lower doses of estrogen and more selective
progestins resulted in less frequent occurrence of this phenomenon.
Higher risk of hypertension is related to long-
-term use of oral contraceptives and risk factors for cardiovascular
diseases. It is very important to assess the possibility
of hypertension before starting oral contraceptives especially
with combined drugs. Blood pressure should be controlled
during hormonal therapy.
