Abstract

The genetic aspect of essential hypertension appears more and more frequently in scientific works. Many candidate genes and their polymorphisms are investigated to find if they cause hypertension. Especially the renin-angiotensin-aldosteron system genes, α-adducin gene, β1-adrenergic receptor gene, Gs protein α-subunit gene or G protein β3-subunit gene are considered. The influence of genetic polymorphism on response to changes in lifestyle and anti-hypertensive treatment is also very interesting. This is the way to understand the difference in response to therapy between different patients. Particularly the effects of treatment are often disappointing.
The aim of this paper is to compile data regarding genetic and pharmacogenetic of essential hypertension.
