Costs of ineffective hypertension treatment

Radosław Wilimski, Maciej Niewada
Nadciśnienie tętnicze 2006;10(6):551-560.

Abstract

The effective treatment of hypertension results in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, as well as associated total costs of hypertension and its complications. Information on differences in costs of uncontrolled and well treated hypertension may have a significant impact on health care. Compliance is one of the factors influencing effectiveness of the therapy. The increase in compliance improves patient outcome and as a consequence it can reduce the costs of treating cardiovascular complications which are substantially higher than the costs of drug therapy in hypertension.
