Prevalence of arterial hypertension in Poland - impact of gender

Abstract
Hypertension is the one of most common chronic diseases
in Poland. The results of large observational studies
univocally indicate to hypertension as one of the most important
risk factors for cardiovascular diseases: ischaemic
heart disease, heart failure and stroke, which are leading
cause of deaths and morbidity not only in Poland but in
whole Europe and United States too.
In last years bigger attention is connected with assessment of gender on development of cardiovascular diseases. The leading cause of cardiovascular diseases is hypertension. The analysis of last large epidemiological studies were carried on debatable results connected with differences in frequency of hypertension in women and man. Significance of this problem have prompted the authors to review large epidemiological trials carried in Poland and to assess frequency of hypertension in polish population.
