Abstract

Both arterial hypertension and psychiatric disturbances afflict an increasing part of modern society and commonly coexist being perceived as a industrial disease. Therefore, it seems vital to address certain complications of a long-term treatment of these diseases. One of these complications is hyponatremia, which remains an interdisciplinary problem of major significance because of its large prevalence and clinical implications. This paper presents the case of 73 year-old woman, suffering from arterial hypertension and depression treated with ACE-inhibitor and fluoxetine, who developed symptomatic hyponatremia due to syndrome of inappropriate diuretic hormone secretion.
