Abstract

In diagnosis of arterial hypertension measurement of serum glucose, cholesterol and its fractions, triglycerides, electrolytes, creatinine, aldosterone, as well as plasma proteolytic renin activity and urine albumin is recommended. Much better accuracy and precission of laboratory tests are the consequences of better methods standardization and laboratory automation, which together with new data concerning biochemical parameters grossly improve the laboratory tests interpretation. However, physicians are still not aware of preanalytical and analytical errors. Poor transfer of knowledge regarding the new laboratory recommendation has the main impact on inappropriate interpretation of laboratory tests in patients with arterial hypertension.
