Abstract

Thiazide diuretics remain highly recommended pharmacological treatment for hypertension with hydrochlorothiazide and indapamide as most commonly used diuretics in major clinical trials and daily practice. Treatment guidelines and textbooks often consider these 2 drugs interchangeable agents within the class of thiazide or thiazidelike diuretics. However, data from controled clinical trials do not support this notion and differences between thiazide and thiazide-like diuretics. may result from significant pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties.
