Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the phenomenon of detransition. Detransition understood as the stop

of therapies being a part of medical sex reassignment procedures and/or attempts to undo the changes

that occurred as a result of tchem. Detransition is not the same for all people; For some it can mean quit of

hormone therapy and switching back to endogenous hormones and/or surgical procedures that restore the

previous appearance (congruent with the metrical sex). The phenomenon apply to the transgender people

and can be considered, on the basis of socio-cultural and medical significance.

The thesis is theoretical, it reviews existing research and it is a specific attempt to integrate existing knowledge.

It presents the definition of the detransition phenomenon, data on its prevalence, presents the possible

reasons for making decisions on detransition, conclusions from studies of transgender people, and proposes

possible ways to enrich the diagnostic and psychoeducational process of people in the process of transition

to minimize potential psychological and physical damage.

The authors assumption based on the literature – the occurrence of the phenomenon is significantly influenced

by: incorrectly conducted diagnostic process; unsatisfactory results of GAS surgery; insufficient

confrontation of applicants for the start of the transition process with their expectations about effects of the

procedures; not considering non-binary in the diagnostic process; insufficient psychological care after the

transition process; lack of family suppory; social rejection.
