Impaired fertility in men addicted to alcohol

The aim of this review is to discuss the compulsive use of alcohol and the occurrence of sexual dysfunctions in men, as well as their impact on fertility. 

It will examine the effect of alcohol dose, duration of use on the occurrence of changes at the gonadal and hormonal levels. The importance of the time of maintaining abstinence in the reversibility of changes caused by chronic alcohol use at the systemic level will also be discussed.

Understanding the mechanisms leading to sexual dysfunction at the cellular, hormonal and psychosocial levels can contribute to the improvement of diagnostic methods and the implementation of preventive and curative activities, as compulsive alcohol consumption is one of the modifiable risk factors for male infertility.
