Neurogenic causes of erectile dysfunction

Abstract

Under the diseases of the central nervous system occurs all kind of sexual dysfunctions. Neurogenical erectile dysfunctions are divided to ones which come from spinal cord and ones which come from brain. Main causes of erectile dysfunctions coming from brain are: brain tumours, skull and brain injuries, brain apoplexy, chronical degenerate diseases and stupor, epilepsy, infections of the central nerve system. In neurogenical erection mechanism very important parts are: temporal lobe, limbic system and hypothalamus. These are the areas which are responsible for sexual beheaviour. The medical pre-optic area and the paraventricular nucleus of hypothalamus are count as the central centers of erection. Then the impulses are conveyed by the core extended, spinal cord to the center of erection in spinal cord. From here through lower plexus under stomach by the parasympathetic fibres of pelvic nerves they get to erectional nerves and to the corpus cavernosum and to the corpus spongiosum.
