The evaluation of sexual behavior of breast feeding women

Abstract

Introduction. We hale characterized the sexual intercourse of women in the postpartum period during the breast feeding.
Material and methods. The analysis included 100 feeding mothers up to 12 months after the puerperium. As the survey method we have used our own elaborated questionnaire.
Results. We have analyzed the frequency of sexual intercourses, sexual satisfaction of the couples and the reasons of difficulties in this concern related with the family situation after childbirth, postpartum complaints and the lactation process. We have recognized women self-evaluation of the recovering to fertility after the labour and the preferred contraceptive methods.
Conclusions. The sexual needs of women and the frequency of sexual intercourses are decreased during the breast feeding. The reasons of difficulties in the sexual activities are: the change of lifestyle related to breast feeding and taking care of the newborn child, fear of the next pregnancy and the typical postpartum complaints. Most women during breast feeding do not self-evaluate the sings of the recovering fertility. The most often used method of contraception is the use of condom and the intermittent intercourse. Most breast feeding women did not obtain the essential information concerning sexual activity and the contraception in the postpartum period.
