Preliminary study the assessment of sexual function and erectile dysfunction patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia

Abstract

Introduction. Preliminary study the assessment of sexual function and erectile dysfunction patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia
Aim of study was assessment of sexual function and in particular erection patients with BPH in Poland.
Material and methods. In during 2007 and 2008 years were examined (by general practitioners) 10 932 patients with BPH (in IPSS, International Prostate Symptom Score, from 8 to 19 points) by questionnaires Sex- Score and IIEF-5 (International Index of Erectile Function 5). Age of pts. was from 50 to 69 yrs. ; half of all pts not drinking and smoking; nearly 30% have got hypertension; up to 15% diabetes and nearly 5% pts. to occur hyperlipaemia and cholesterolaemia. Majority pts to come from Śląskie (2944 — 26.95%) and Mazowieckie (1205 — 11.03%) province and least from Podlaskie (43 — 0.39%) and Zachodniopomorskie (235 — 2.15%).
Results. The examination was considered sex coexistence as very important and important suitable by 1697 — 15.52% and 4621 — 42.27% pts. Results from Sex-Score questionnaire: majority of pts 4953 — 45.34% to get 11–15 pnt., next 2503 — 22.9% pts. 6–10 pnt.; 1845 — 16.9% pts. 16–20 pnt.; 1385 — 12.68% pts. 0–5 pnt. Results IIPS-5: majority of pts. 4742 — 43.41% to get 16–20 pnt.; next 2182 — 19.98% 11–15 pnt.; 1432 — 13.11% 21–25 pnt.; 1140 — 10.44% 0–5 pnt.; 1129 — 10.34% 6–10 pnt. The assessment of erection (E): remaining of E to finish coitus — nearly always 1999 — 18.29% pts.; frequently 3725 — 34.07% pts.; enough E to penetrate vaginal — in majority 2356 — 21.55% pts., in halves time 2467 — 22.57% pts.; occasionally 2136 — 19.54%. Sexual intercourse to give satisfaction: nearly always 1453 — 13.29% pts.; partial in 2418 — 22.12% pts.; sometimes in 4127 — 37.75% pts.
Conclusions:
1. The examination patients with BPH to assess sexual intercourse in his life like very important and important suitable by 42% and 29% pts.
2. Solely 18% patients to keep erection to finish his sexual intercourse.
3. Taken as a whole satisfaction of sexual intercourse to state only on 13.3% pts.; scare in 22.1% pts. and occasionally in 38% pts.
