Anticoagulation treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing dialysis
Forum Nefrologiczne 2015;8(1):8-13.
Abstract
Atrial fibrillation and prevalence rate of thromboembolic and hemorraghic event in the dialysis population is the frequent and importantial clinical problem. Atrial fibrillation is estimated to have affected from 3.5% to 27%, mean 11.7% dialysis patients. In the general population warfarin is effective in stroke prevention and the risk of hemorrhagic complications often does not surpass the benefits of anticoagulation treatment. Hemodialysis patients are vitamin K depleted and have higher baseline risk of bleeding complications. The article refers to the problem of the principles of anticoagulation treatment of dialysis population, whether the same guidelinesas in the general population should apply.
