Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology. Part VIII — Professor Gabriel Richet
Abstract
The first issue of 2013 of Forum Nefrologiczne initiated the series of publications on the Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology. To date, we have presented seven figures who have enjoyed the distinction awarded by the Society. The first honorary member to be presented was Professor Tadeusz Orłowski, while the latest issue featured the article about Professor Andrzej Manitius. Not only were both of them renowned nephrologists but also outstanding figures of the Polish medicine as such. This time, we set to portray the world-famous French nephrologist — Professor Gabriel Richet whose grandfather received the Nobel Prize in medicine and physiology in 1913. The closest co-operator of the famous Jean Hamburger, Gabriel Richet is among those who are generally regarded as the pioneers of the European and world nephrology. The creator of the well-known centre of nephrology in Tenon, France is also known to Polish nephrologists as he spent some time in Poland and knew the Polish history. This article was originally meant to be published somewhat later, yet Gabriel Richet’s death in October this year precipitated its appearance and changed it into a memoir note.
