Abstract
Protocol biopsies are defined as biopsies performed
in stable renal allograft recipients at fixed time
points. Many papers describe subclinical lesions
such as rejection, interstitial fibrosis tubular atrophy
IF/TA, calcineurin toxicity, glomeruli pathologies or
BK virus associated nephropathy. Nonetheless the
role of protocol biopsies in clinical practice is still
unclear. This review describes the significance of
pathological lesions in protocol biopsies according
to the current state of the art.
