Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an increasingly
common condition associated with age, diabetes
and hypertension. In addition to medication, nonpharmacological
methods of kidney protection are
used, which include lifestyle modifications. In this,
the reduction of protein intake and the use of ketoanalogues
of amino acids (KA) play an important role.
Since 2021, a drug programme has been implemented
in Poland for people with stage 4 and 5 CKD which includes
the use of a low-protein diet and KA. The diet
aims to reduce the production of uremic toxins, slow
disease progression and improve patients’ quality of life.
