Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is diagnosed in 3% of women of childbearing age; pregnant patients represent an even rarer case. As a result of polycystic kidney disease (PKD), the hypothalamus–gonadal hormonal axis is disrupted, resulting in a number of complications that make it difficult to become pregnant, as well as to maintain a pregnancy. Patients are mainly treated with haemodialysis, less frequently with peritoneal dialysis. Pregnancy outcomes are influenced by the type and intensity of dialysis and modifications to drug treatment. This paper examines the roles of chronic kidney disease in pregnant patients. This paper presents the epidemiology and outcome of pregnancy in patients on chronic dialysis therapy
