Abstract

Introduction Antoni Kępiński created the concept of information metabolism and used it to describe main psychiatric disorders in a series of monographs. Multi-axial schema of psychotherapeutic diagnosis was made based on that concept. Aim of this study is to present this schema to describe mental state of a person with schizophrenia. Axis I Borders (psychosis evaluation); Axis II Self-control - assessment of dysfunctional believes and internal conflicts; Axis III Functional structures - personality traits; Axis IV Energetic resources; Axis V Abilities to incorporate new information - abilities to cope with stress; Axis VI Abilities to eliminate useless data - defense mechanisms Material and method. Mental state description with designed structured interview and diagnostic tool to assess most of axes: - Axis I - Object Relations and RealityTesting Inventory; Axis II - General Self Efficacy Scale; Axis III - Temperament and Character Inventory; Axis V - The Coping Inventory of Stressful Situation; Axis VI - Defense Style Questionnaire -40 Results Comprehensive mental state description of a person with schizophrenia identifying issues for psychotherapeutic intervention. Conclusions Concept of information metabolism allows for comprehensive mental state description, diagnostic dimensions used in cognitive - behavioral and psychodynamic psychotherapy
