Aggression — complex problem of children with mental disability — case report

Abstract

Girl age 13 years (JS), has a diagnosis of mild mental disability. She is a pupil of school for mentally disabled children. She undergone a psycho-pedagogical observation during holiday camp for children with mental disabilities. Her mother, active alcoholic, had manifested no parental attitudes toward JS. During observation JS presented psychomotor hyperactivity. It was manifested by verbal and physical aggression. There was gradation of aggressive behavior during the attack. Following sources of aggression were diagnosed: mild mental disability, abnormal pattern of attachment to mother, pathology of family. The girl needs immediate, intense and long-term therapeutic, pedagogical and psychological intervention. However, there is a concern that it may not achieve positive outcome. The aim of the study was to provide a clinical presentation of expression and the possible sources of aggression in children with mild mental disability.
