Abstract

St. John’s wort over-the-counter pharmaceuticals are widely used as a complementary therapy in a wide variety of disorders. St. John’s wort is usually applied with no physicians consultation. St. John’s wort is usually perceived by the patients as safe and natural. Its efficacy remains unclear. However, St. John’s wort causes a number of drug interactions that may alter the state of the art pharmacotherapy in significant way causing a series of adverse ractions. Thus each pshysician should be aware of its possible mechanisms of action.
