Abstract

Undeniably, disorganization is widely considered to be the very essence of schizophrenia regardless of its clinical picture and language disorders are its measurable manifestation. Here, we are having a look at the current position of communication deviance as well as its clinical value in the context of the other symptoms of schizophrenia. By reexamining the way the disorganization syndrome was isolated, and focusing on its possible neural basis we are trying to clarify the bleulerian concept of loosening of associations. We also review a couple of tools devised for assessing language disturbance attracting the reader’s attention particularly to the Short Schizophasia Assessment Scale whose relative simplicity makes it applicable in everyday use.
