Abstract

The aim of this paper is presentation of epigenetic mechanisms in non-genomic inheritance of predisposition to psychiatric disorders and cognitive dysfunctions. In the first part of this paper we describe epigenetic term and recent findings on the role and mechanisms of epigenetic codes in mental disorders. In second part of this review we present epigenetic regulation of synaptic plasticity and cognition. Dysfunctions of these processes are thought to be important in psychiatric disorders.
