Abstract

Insomnia is a major health problem and considering its prevalence it should be treated as a social problem. Currently, the main therapeutic method is pharmacotherapy, which according to available guidelines should be time-limited and if possible, psychotherapy. The aim of this paper is to present the psychological models of insomnia and both cognitive and behavioral methods of therapy. Cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia may be an alternative or a complement for pharmacotherapy.
