Abstract

Insomnia is a common medical problem observed in everyday clinical practice by doctor of all specialities. In this article authors discuss the use and efficacy of antidepressants in insomnia treatment. According to the current therapeutic guidelines they are the third line treatment for insomnia. Authors reviewed data from clinial trials and discussed the mechanisms of antidepressants hypnotic action. The necessity of conductiong randomised, controlled clinical trials determinig the efficacy and safety of antidepressants in insomnia was underline by the authors.
