My nights to Maud — fi ve Apocalypse riders in radiotherapy

Abstract
The paper is dedicated to milestone contributions in experimental and clinical radiotherapy by fi ve prominent
pioneers in these fi elds — A. Hliniak, A. Michałowski, H. Thomlinson, G. H. Fletcher, H. R. Withers. Their novel and
original concepts, hypotheses and studies had a signifi cant impact on the progress in radiation oncology in the last
50–55 years. Presenting and discussing their scientifi c achievements, is the intention of the author, to introduce them
to the reader and above all, to protect these fi ve scientifi c prophets from being forgotten.
