It is with great pleasure that we can share with our readership news of a further improvement in bibliometric measures of the Polish Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery (PJNNS, Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska). Clarivate™ has just announced its Journal Citation Report for 2022. The 2021 Journal Impact Factor (IF) for the PJNNS is 2.223.
As our IF for 2020 was 1.621, this represents a very substantial improvement in our journal’s IF. The IF is calculated using the following metrics:
The three most cited articles that contributed to the increase in the PJNNS IF are listed in Table 1. The most cited article was by Schinwelski et al. [1], a full Research Paper on post-stroke spasticity and its impact on quality of life and daily living functions. The second most cited paper was a Letter to the Editor by Tipton and Wszolek discussing SARS-CoV-2 in the early days of the pandemic [2]. The third most cited manuscript, a Short Communication by Rusin et al., described direct oral anticoagulation in the treatment of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis [3].

The articles that contributed to the increase in the PJNNS IF were cited in multiple journals, and Table 2 below lists the 10 magazines in which the manuscripts published in PJNNS were most cited. Unsurprisingly the PJNNS, as the premier journal of Polish neurologists, is top of this list. The editors thank our authors for their support.

We are also very pleased with a rise in the PJNNS’s Journal Citation Indicator (JCI). The JCI represents the average Category Normalised Citation Impact (CNCI) of citable items (i.e. research articles and review manuscripts) published by a journal over a three year period (a longer period than the Journal IF which reflects only the last two years). The average JCI in a particular category is 1, meaning that journals with a JCI score of 1.5 have 50% more citation impact than the average in that category. This is another bibliometric measure frequently used. Figure 1 depicts the PJNNS JCI.
