Autotransfusion — an alternative to allogeneic transfusions
Streszczenie
Autologous donation is a procedure involving the collection of blood and blood components
from a donor who is also the recipient of his or her own, properly processed and prepared donation.
Autotransfusion aims to increase the safety of transfusion by using the patient’s own
blood. The advantages of autotransfusion outweigh its limitations, which is why it is worth
recalling this method and re-expanding its use to provide blood or its components for transfusion.
A return to systematic autotransfusion procedures may prove to be a golden mean,
given the decreasing number of blood donors and the constantly growing population of patients
requiring transfusions.
