Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology. Part IX — Professor Olgierd Smoleński

Janusz Ostrowski, Bolesław Rutkowski
Forum Nefrologiczne 2015;8(1):58-62.

Abstract

With this paper we are pleased to commence the third year of the Forum Nefrologiczne series titled the Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology. To date we have presented 5 Polish and 3 foreign figures enjoying this distinction, the first one of whom was the outstanding Polish internist, nephrologist and transplantologist, prof. Tadeusz Orłowski. The most recent issue featured the late, world-famous French nephrologist prof. Gabriel Richet. The sudden death of prof. Olgierd Smoleński during the 10th Gdańsk Post ASN Meeting in January this year compelled the authors to change their earlier plans in order to present prof. Olgierd Smoleński out of the assumed chronology. This distinguished figure of the Polish nephrology, the creator and organiser of the Krakow Dialysis Therapy Days was a wellknown and respected Doctor, Colleague and Person. Apart from medicine, Olgierd Smoleński’s scope of interest encompassed poetry, music and painting. All these make us truly believe that the decision to change the original plans and portray our Colleague and Friend now was the right one.
