Honorary Members of the Polish Society of Nephrology Part IV. Professor August Heidland

Janusz Ostrowski, Bolesław Rutkowski
Forum Nefrologiczne 2013;6(4):273-276.

Abstract

In 2013, which marks the 30th anniversary of the Polish Society of Nephrology, a series of publications in “Forum Nefrologiczne” were launched to portrait the Honorary Members of the Society as the individuals who have greatly contributed to the development of the Polish nephrology throughout its existence. Three noble figures of Polish origin have been depicted to date: Prof. Tadeusz Orłowski, Prof. Jan Nielubowicz and Prof. Zygmunt Hanicki. In this issue of the “Forum”, we set out to present the first foreign Honorary Member, the German Head of the Clinic of Nephrology at the University of Würzburg, Professor August Heidland. Such great is Professor Heidland’s credit for the development of the Polish nephrology, and so is his importance to many of us personally, that several Polish medical universities, as well as our Society, have granted him a most prominent Degree Honoris Causa and an Honorary Membership.
