Abstract

Obesity is one of the major childhood health problems around the world. Economic factors can lead to the development of obesity, but on the other hand obesity generates costs that affect the economic factors. Economic causes of obesity include: an increase in the availability of fast food and sweet drinks, food prices, and the financial condition of the family. Treatment of obesity and its consequences generates both direct (related to medical care) and indirect (non-medical) costs. Many financial resources are also devoted to the prevention of overweight and obesity. Increasing number of obese patients results in increasing costs of prevention and treatment of obesity and its consequences. This situation causes an increase in expenditure from national budgets.
