Adam Markiewicz
Diabetologia Praktyczna 2001;2(2):87-100.

Abstract

In diabetes may appear not only diabetic nephropathy but non-diabetic kidney diseases as well. Symptoms like: leucocyturia, quick loss of GFR, renal insufficiency with minimal proteinuria, renal insufficiency or proteinuria quickly appearing after diabetes recognition, appearance of proteinuria with no signs of diabetic retinopathy indicate wide diagnostic in order to exclude noniabetic renal diseases. In many cases the nephrological treatment (e.x. immunosupression) can significantly improve renal function. Appearance of glomerulonephritis may be the revelator of neoplasmatic disease particularly of elders so that appearance of nontypical for diabetic nephropathy disorders in urine investigation indicates to diagnostic of most frequent neoplasms. Strict co-operation between nephrologist and diabetologist may bring suitable advantages for the patients.
