Recent progress in diabetic trombophilia prophylaxis and treatment
Diabetologia Praktyczna 2003;4(2):153-160.
Abstract
Diabetes predisposes to the imbalance between coagulation
and fibrinolysis, resulting in the prothrombotic
state. This predisposition is due to altered platelet
function, increased activity of some coagulation
factors — especially fibrinogen and von Willebrandt
factor — as well as to impaired fibrinolysis. In the
present study we analysed the most common disturbances,
and the methods of prophylaxis and treatment
of thrombotic complications, with regard to the
role of antiplatelet drugs and thrombin inhibitors.
