The FIELD study: lipid lowering intervention reduces the risk of macro- and microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes

Tomasz Klupa, Maciej T. Małecki
Diabetologia Praktyczna 2006;7(5):281-286.

Abstract

Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease at least partially due to specific, “diabetic”, atherogenic dislipidemia. The goal of Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) study was to assess the effect of fenofibrate on cardiovascular disease events in these patients. This article comments on the results of FIELD study as far as the prevention of micro- and macrovascular complications of diabetes are concerned.
