Abstract

Psychosocial factors are thought to influence the results of diabetes treatment. That was proven by the DAWN (Diabetes, Attitudes, Wishes and Needs study). To improve diabetes care quality in Poland the National Programme for diabetes was instituted in 2003 and one of the Programme activity was to devise "Psychodiabetological kit" containing 3 short methods supporting psychological diagnosis and psychotherapeutic approach scheme to use during routine visit in doctor’s office. Half of the doctors population knows the Brief Method of Evaluating Coping with Disease. The Brief Method of Evaluating the Feeling an Influence on the Course of Disease and the Practical Schema of Psychotherapeutic Management are known to one third of the doctors population. Methods were positively verified as a support for clinical diagnosis as well as the way of doctor-patient communication/education. Over half of doctors uses mentioned tools in everyday practice, and majority is keen to further develop their experience with psychological tools used in the support of diabetic patient. The most preferred form of developing those skills are training workshops and also printed materials and brochures.
