Barbara Mirkiewicz-Sieradzka
Diabetologia Praktyczna 2007;8(1):28-34.

Abstract

The aim of this paper was to present the current treatment methods of diabetic retinopathy, both proliferative and nonproliferative. The progress in photocoagulation methods connected with laser photocoagulation and vitrectomy was pointed out. The author presented current pharmacotherapy methods such as growth hormone antagonists, which may lower pathologically elevated levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and insulin like growth factor (IGF-1). By comparison with the older retinopathy treatment methods, the author presented the huge progress in the treatment of this chronic and serious complication of diabetes.
