Selected aspects of pancreas transplantation in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetologia Praktyczna 2007;8(10):359-364.
Abstract
Beta-cells replacement is currently the only therapeutic
venue that restores normal glucose metabolism
in patients with type I diabetes mellitus. Consisted
long-term insulin-independence is well documented
only for solid pancreas transplantation. This autumn
took place in Prague 13th Congress of the
European Society of Organ Transplantation accompanied
by founding symposium of European Pancreas
and Islet Transplantation Association.
The paper concerns presented at the congress results
of European multicenter studies on pancreas transplantation,
plans of further investigations, reports
from transplant centers on prophylaxis, diagnosis
and treatment of complications after pancreas transplantation
with particular regard on organ thrombosis
and factors that influence long-term results of
treatment with pancreas transplantation.
