What does good metabolic control of diabetes mean? - more questions than answers

Grzegorz Dzida, Teresa Koblik
Diabetologia Praktyczna 2008;9(6):265-270.

Abstract

Metabolic control is a term frequently used as a synonym of the percentage of glycated HbA1c. Many physicians intensify the therapy considering this parameter only. Authors review consequences of using HbA1c in clinical practice and also indicate other parameters that should be taken into consideration when decision about intensifying diabetes type 2 therapy should be made. Those parameters include daily glucose concentration profiles, patient body mass, risk of hypoglycaemia, number of injections and quality of life.
