Abstract
The article presents the recommendations of
American Diabetes Association for Standards of
Medical Care in Diabetes for 2010.
In comparison with 2009, the 2010 edition contains many changes and additions. New section on cystic fibrosis-related diabetes has been added. Current criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes have been revised to include hemoglobin A1c. The section previously titled “diagnosis of prediabetes“ has been renamed to “categories of increased risk for diabetes“.
ADA has been considering to accept new diagnostic criteria for GDM proposed by IADPSG. In comparison with 2009, the role of aspirin in primary cardiovascular diseases‘ prevention has been diminished.
Goals for inpatient blood glucose levels in the hospital care have become less stringent and divided between critically ill patients and non-critically ill patients.
