Glycated hemoglobin in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of glucose homeostasis — the highs and lows

Sylwia Wenclewska, Józef Drzewoski
Diabetologia Kliniczna 2014;3(4):167-175.

Abstract

Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a commonly used parameter of metabolic control of diabetes. In 2010 the American Diabetes Association and other global Diabetes Society, and in 2013 the European Society of Diabetes (EASD) joined this indicator to the test used in the diagnosis of disorders of carbohydrate metabolism. Much of the data, although not all, indicates that the determination of HbA1c can significantly closer to increase the detection of diabetes and its complications. This article reviews the literature on the role of HbA1c in the diagnosis and therapy of disorders of carbohydrate metabolism.
