Abstract

Diabetes is considered to be an epidemic of the 21st century. Physiotherapy should be included, in both treatment plan and prevention of chronic complications in patients with diabetes. Properly selected individualised exercise, physical therapy and massage have a positive impact on weight control, increase insulin sensitivity, improve the quality of life and decrease the morbidity of cardiovascular disease.

Comprehensive clinical evaluation of the patient allows determination of the optimal physiotherapy program, which should be planned  according to the type, frequency, duration and intensity of physical activity.
