Polish-German Society of Vascular Surgeons

Polish-German Society of Vascular Surgeons was registered in 1996 as the natural consequence of scientific exchange and previous contacts of Polish and German vascular surgeons. The first President of the society was associated prof. Andrzej T. Dorobisz. The first meeting of German and Polish vascular surgeons was organized in 1992 in Bad Saarow by prof. dr Wolfgang Hepp — Chief of the Department of Vascular Surgery of the Virhov's University in Berlin. The scientific leaders of this conference were prof. W. Hepp and prof. Klemens Skóra from the Department of Vascular Surgery in Wroclaw.
The next Polish-German and German-Polish vascular surgery meetings were organized in Bad Sarrow (1993), Strzelin (1995), Książ n/Wałbrzych (1996), Burg n/Cottbus (1997), Miłków n/Jelenia Góra (1998), Pasewalk (1999), Lądek Zdrój (2000) and in Bautzen (2001). In the year 2002 in Karpacz the 10th Jubilee Meeting of the Society took place in Karpacz that was connected with very interesting workshops concerning endovascular treatment - the workshops organized by dr A. Gussmann and dr I. Flessenkamper were supported by 5 leading companies producing endovascular equipment. Interesting conferences of the society are usually organized in June in Poland or Germany and the scientific program is not limited by the committee. The formula of the meeting concerns the exchange of the new scientific research results and experience exchange between Polish and German Vascular Surgeons. During conferences the following arguments were discussed: surgical and endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysm, infection treatment in the vascular surgery, surgery of the vein diseases, DVT treatment, surgery of the brain supplying arteries, percutaneus endovascular procedures in the treatment of peripheral artery aneurysms and chronic organ ischemia. In all the scientific sessions presented topics are discussed and this is usually continued in the unofficial part of the symposium. The exchange concerns also clinical training in medical centers of both countries.

After new election during the meeting in Miłków in 1998 the Chief of the Society becames prof. A. Dorobisz became again the President with prof. K. Ziaja as Vice-President (secretary Piotr Barć). There are 110 registered members in the society and recently about 140–150 members and friend took part in our meetings representing the majority of Polish and many German vascular surgery centers. The papers presented during the conferences were submitted for publication. This year our meeting is organized in Bad Saarow in Germany by dr Andreas Gussmann from 12 to 15 June (endovascular work-shops will take place in 5 centers of vascular surgery in Bad Saarow, Berlin and Potschdam and the practical aspects the training will be emphasized).
