Chirurgia Polska 2005;7(3):161-167.
Abstract
Background: The aim of our study was to assess how often the general surgeon should take part in
oncological operative procedures in gynaecology.
Material and methods: We analysed 1304 oncological operative procedures performed in the years 2001-2004 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Bytom. An evaluation of the frequency and reasons for a general surgeon’s participation in gynaecological operative procedures was made.
Results: The necessity of a general surgeon’s participation in gynaecological operative procedures in oncological cases appeared in 5.9% of the performed procedures.
Conclusions: In most of these procedures, operations were performed in cases of ovarian neoplasm and the general surgeon most often operated on the digestive tract.
