Abstract

The paper presents two clinical cases of extensive abdominal wall defect caused by necrosis. In both cases the extensive defect was dressed by means of polypropylene mesh. This resulted in early primary closure of the abdominal cavity and wound healing per primam. In both of these severe cases, this enabled the surgery to be shortened to a minimum. On the basis of an analysis of the literature as well as their own experience, the authors think that the application of polypropylene mesh is a good solution in the treatment of large infected abdominal wall defects. VAC system vacuum dressings seem to be a new and optimal method given in the literature, due to their effectiveness and a smaller number of complications.
