Single Incision Laparoscopic Appendectomy with the Tri-Port system - the first Polish report
Chirurgia Polska 2009;11(2):61-65.
Abstract
Background: Laparoscopic appendectomy is one of the most commonly performed laparoscopic procedures.
It is most often performed utilizing three access ports. Since 2008 we have noticed the rapid
development of a new surgical method - single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). SILS offers excellent
cosmetic results and may be associated with decreased postoperative pain and accelerated recovery.
Material and methods: The authors report on a case of Single Incision Laparoscopic Appendectomy utilizing the Olympus Tri-Port System. Results: A Single Incision Laparoscopic Appendectomy was performed. The operating time was 70 minutes. No intra or postoperative complications were recorded. The patient was relased from the hospital on the second post-operative day.
Conclusions: The SILS appendectomy appears to be a promising method which could, in the future, replace traditional laparoscopic appendectomies. This method gives excellent cosmetic results and fast postoperative recovery. It is important to note that this is a new method and requires further clinical studies.
